Riverbed’s current version of the Steelhead Mobile application offers the same industry-leading SSL optimization technology found on the Steelhead appliance and introduces further acceleration and management enhancements. The newest 2.0 software provides the most comprehensive WAN acceleration solution for the mobile worker.
SSL Optimization
SharePoint, Outlook Web Access, SAP, Oracle and others that use secure HTTPS can be optimized alongside the unencrypted applications that historically benefited from Steelhead Mobile acceleration (internal servers for now).
Steelhead Mobile 2.0 maintains the preferred trust model approach to accelerating SSL-encrypted traffic. It can apply its world-class data streamlining, transport streamlining, and application streamlining mechanisms to SSL encrypted traffic while keeping all private keys within the data center and without requiring fake certificates in branch offices.
MAPI 2007 Optimization
Steelhead Mobile 2.0 expands Riverbed’s support for Microsoft Exchange environments and becomes the first wide-area data services (WDS) vendor to deliver a protocol optimization specifically for Microsoft Exchange 2007. Steelhead Mobile 2.0 recognizes unencrypted MAPI 2007 traffic and applies specific Layer 7 application protocol latency improvements.
Oracle Forms Optimization
Steelhead Mobile 2.0 provides enhanced benefits for the Oracle E-Business suite of applications, particularly Oracle forms traffic and reporting. Oracle Application Suite 11i traffic can be decrypted and optimized across the WAN up to 9 times faster.
Link-Based Licensing
The introduction of link-based licensing empowers administrators to enable or disable optimized connection by circuit type. Licensing rules can be defined on a Steelhead adapter-by-adapter basis determining eligibility based on criteria like wired vs. wireless, LAN vs. VPN or 3G access vs. dial-up.
Enhanced Steelhead Auto-Detection
Steelhead Mobile 2.0 provides more efficient license and optimization management through enhanced Steelhead auto-detection. This feature disables the Mobile client if the user is in the office where a Steelhead appliance is present. The user can defer to that Steelhead appliance for optimization based on its policy settings.
Client Improvements
Steelhead Mobile 2.0 provides a complete picture of all applications active on the endpoint as well as all connections generated by each client. The client also generates lists of all of the available adapters and all peering Steelhead products. New troubleshooting tools like certificate regeneration and trace routes further enhance the ability to spot issues and deal with them effectively.
