Packeteer Evaluation Scope of Work
Overview
VistaOne's Packeteer Evaluation Program (PEP) is designed as a maximum 30 day NO-RISK approach to allow you to properly assess the value of deploying Packeteer WAN Optimization solutions in your network infrastructure. To support the PEP, VistaOne provides all Packeteer hardware and software, plus up to 10 hours of Packeteer Certified Engineer (PCE) expertise, at no charge. Your organization is under no obligation to place an order for the PacketShaper(s) subsequent to the PEP.
Upon receipt of your SOW submittal, VistaOne's PCE will contact you to finalize an installation date (see Section II below), and to establish procedures for remote access to the Packeteer device. The installation date should coincide with the 30 day period that best allows you to invest approximately 10 hours to work with our PCE to support your final decision to move forward, or not, on the purchase of the Packeteer solution.
Process
1. VistaOne ships, and you receive, the Packeteer appliance and related installation materials approximately one week prior to Installation Date.
2. Two hours are scheduled to complete the physical installation and an overview demonstration of the PacketShaper interface and feature set. This session is conducted via telephone and web- conference. Note that Installation is typically in-line requiring less than 1 minute of network interruption.
3. At Installation, the PacketShaper will be set to "Auto-Discover" (Classify) applications that are running on your network. We continue in Classify-only (no Shaping) mode for five consecutive days after Installation.
4. During the five day Classify-only period and utilizing remote access, the VistaOne PCE reviews the application mix and existing network performance to establish current-state performance baselines. A web conference is scheduled at the end of day five to review and gain your concurrence on the baseline findings. This conference is also used to agree upon and implement Shaping on a representative group of applications to mitigate congestion and optimize application performance.
5. Days 6 through 10 are dedicated to observing the effects of Shaping on the representative applications and making adjustments as required.
6. With Shaping now turned off, days 11 through 15 are dedicated to completing and presenting the Post Shaping performance reports to contrast with the previous baseline performance reports. These reports are the basis from which a decision to purchase are made.
7. Where gains from Bandwidth Compression and/or TCP Acceleration are indicated, the PEP is extended for up to 10 days. A similar process is established to demonstrate pre and post results.
